This live DJ set was recorded during one of the most memorable celebrations I've had the privilege of being part of. Guests arrived expecting an engagement party, only to discover they were actually attending a surprise wedding.
The moment the announcement was made completely changed the atmosphere. What had started as a relaxed celebration quickly became an unforgettable wedding reception filled with excitement, emotion and one big party.
The couple wanted the music to reflect their personalities and keep the celebration flowing from the surprise reveal right through to a packed dancefloor. This live mix captures the energy of a night that nobody saw coming—but everyone will remember.
Behind the Mix
One of the things that made this wedding so unique was the opportunity to perform alongside fellow Melbourne DJ, DJ Clauds.
Rather than performing separate sets, we went back-to-back throughout the evening, feeding off each other's energy and creating a dynamic soundtrack that kept the celebration feeling fresh from beginning to end. Having two DJs with different musical influences allowed us to introduce a wider range of styles while still maintaining a seamless flow across the dancefloor.
Once the surprise wedding had been revealed, the excitement in the room was incredible. From that point on, it became all about reading the crowd, building on the emotion of the moment and creating a celebration that matched the joy everyone was feeling.
The Music Journey
The celebration began with relaxed engagement party vibes before everything changed with the surprise wedding announcement. Once the formalities were complete, the energy lifted dramatically as guests embraced the occasion and made their way onto the dancefloor.
Together, DJ Clauds and I blended Latin favourites, party classics, commercial hits and crowd favourites to keep the dancefloor moving. Going back-to-back behind the decks kept the music feeling unpredictable and exciting, with every transition helping build the atmosphere even further.
By the end of the night, the dancefloor had become the centre of the celebration, with family and friends making the most of every moment together.
Crowd Moments
The biggest highlight of the evening was, without question, watching the reaction when guests realised they were witnessing a wedding rather than simply an engagement party.
The surprise created an incredible sense of excitement that carried through the rest of the night. There was a real feeling that everyone wanted to celebrate as much as possible, and that energy translated directly onto the dancefloor.
Performing alongside DJ Clauds made the night even more enjoyable. We were constantly building on each other's selections, keeping guests engaged and creating a party atmosphere that felt spontaneous and full of life. Seeing the dancefloor packed while family and friends celebrated such an unforgettable surprise made this one of those nights I'll always remember.
