This live DJ set was recorded during one of Melbourne's most memorable end-of-year corporate celebrations, held on the banks of the Yarra River on a beautiful balmy summer evening.
From the moment guests arrived, there was already a buzz around the venue. With the city lights reflecting across the river and an open-air setting that perfectly captured Melbourne's summer atmosphere, everything was in place for a fantastic night. My role was to build on that energy and create a soundtrack that matched the excitement of the occasion.
This mix captures how the night unfolded—from relaxed social moments through to a packed dancefloor where colleagues celebrated another successful year together.
Behind the Mix
Outdoor corporate events always have a different feel to traditional ballroom functions. Guests naturally spend more time moving around, enjoying the venue and soaking up the atmosphere, so the music needs to complement that journey before becoming the centre of attention.
For this event, I started with upbeat, feel-good music that suited the relaxed riverside setting before gradually introducing bigger party favourites as more people made their way onto the dancefloor.
Rather than following a fixed playlist, I constantly adjusted the music based on how the crowd responded. As the energy lifted throughout the evening, so did the soundtrack, helping transform an already great atmosphere into a genuine celebration.
The Music Journey
Like many great corporate celebrations, the night built naturally from beginning to end.
Guests arrived ready to unwind after a busy year, enjoying drinks by the river while catching up with colleagues. As conversations turned into celebrations, I introduced bigger singalong favourites, classic party tracks and crowd-pleasing anthems that encouraged more and more people onto the dancefloor.
By the time the evening reached its peak, the dancefloor was packed and the celebration had taken on a life of its own, with music flowing across multiple genres to keep the energy high right through until the final songs.
Crowd Moments
There were so many moments that made this event memorable, but one that really stood out was watching people walking past the venue stop to see what was happening. The atmosphere was so lively that more than a few passers-by looked like they wanted to join the party themselves.
It was also great seeing guests fully embrace the festive spirit, with Christmas hats making regular appearances on the dancefloor as the night progressed. Those little touches always add personality to an event and remind you that people are there to celebrate, relax and simply have a great time together.
When a crowd reaches that point where everyone is smiling, singing along and enjoying themselves without worrying about tomorrow, you know you've helped create something special.
