The Setting

Tatra Receptions is one of my favourite wedding venues in Melbourne, and it's easy to see why. Nestled amongst the beautiful forests of the Dandenong Ranges, it provides an incredible backdrop for couples wanting a wedding that's both elegant and relaxed.

I've had the pleasure of performing at Tatra Receptions on numerous occasions, so I'm very familiar with the venue, its layout and how to create an atmosphere that works beautifully throughout the evening. From the formalities through to a packed dancefloor, it's a venue that consistently delivers unforgettable celebrations.

Bringing the Vision to Life

Sadhana and Adrian wanted their wedding to celebrate not only their love for one another, but also the coming together of two families and cultures. While every multicultural wedding is unique, their vision was refreshingly simple — create a relaxed atmosphere where everyone felt welcome, enjoy the traditions that mattered most to them and then finish the night with an incredible party.

Throughout our planning, they were open to ideas and trusted me to guide the music as the reception unfolded. That flexibility allowed me to read the room throughout the evening and build a soundtrack that reflected their personalities while keeping guests of all ages engaged on the dancefloor.

How the Night Unfolded

After the formalities wrapped up, the celebration shifted gears and the dancefloor quickly became the heart of the evening. A carefully paced mix of party classics, old school R&B and crowd favourites created an atmosphere where every generation felt comfortable getting involved.

One of the things I enjoy most about multicultural weddings is finding the balance between the couple's favourite music and the songs that bring everyone together. Throughout the night I continued reading the room, building the energy gradually and adjusting the music to match the crowd, resulting in a dancefloor that stayed full right through to the final song.

From Behind the DJ Decks

Every wedding develops its own personality, and this one found its rhythm almost immediately. Sadhana and Adrian gave me the freedom to focus on what I enjoy most—reading the room and letting the energy of the guests shape the night.

Because I've worked at Tatra Receptions many times, I could concentrate entirely on the flow of the celebration rather than worrying about the venue logistics. Familiarity with the room, acoustics and reception timeline meant everything ran smoothly behind the scenes while I focused on keeping the dancefloor moving.

Watching guests from different generations and cultural backgrounds celebrating together is always one of the highlights of a multicultural wedding. Seeing grandparents, family members and friends all sharing the same dancefloor is exactly what makes these celebrations so memorable.

Once the formalities are complete, creating enough uninterrupted dancefloor time gives guests the opportunity to really enjoy themselves.
